I have inserted a cartridge into my printer and am getting an error that the cartridge is missing or defective.
First make sure you have purchased the correct cartridge for your printer.
Take the cartridges out of the printer and make sure that all packaging, clips, and tape have been removed from the cartridge.
Then, while the printer is on, remove the power cord from the back of the printer and leave the printer off for 15 minutes. Doing this will give your printer a chance to clear the error.
If the cartridge contains a microchip, while the cartridge is out of the printer, clean the chip well with a tissue or cloth.
Turn the printer back on and firmly reinsert the cartridges making sure they click fully into place.
If a complete set of cartridges has been purchased, put all the new cartridges in the printer at the same time. I have inserted a full set of cartridges into the printer at the same time and am getting an error message saying cartridges are missing or defective.
Follow the instructions above.
If the problem persists, put all the old cartridges back into the printer and change the cartridges individually one by one. This should identify which cartridge is causing the error. I have inserted my cartridges and the print quality is poor or no ink appears on the paper.
These cartridges are simply a plastic tank that holds the ink. They have no effect on print quality which is determined by the print heads inside your printer.
If the print quality is poor or no ink appears on the paper, try performing 2-3 head/nozzle cleanings through the printer software to help ink flow, leaving about 20 minutes between each cleaning. During this rest period, the ink in the cartridge will migrate through the cartridge and suck/push any air trapped in the print head. My ink cartridge printed a page or two and then stopped printing.
The tape covering the breather hole was not removed. Make sure the cartridge breather hole has been opened, usually by removing a small "cut strip" so the cartridge has a supply of air and can then print.
I just inserted my new cartridges and the ink levels on my computer show low or empty.
It is normal for ink levels to be low or empty when using compatible cartridges. Ignore the ink levels and print normally. All cartridges are checked before shipping to ensure they are completely filled. I am trying to insert the cartridges, but they are physically a different size or shape.
Compatible cartridges will always look different than original brand cartridges.
They often differ in shape or size, but this does not affect the fit or functionality of the cartridges in any way. It appears that the cartridge is running out sooner than it should based on factory page yield estimates.
Factory Page Yield estimates are based on an average 5% text/graphics coverage on the page. If you are printing graphics or heavy text applications, the coverage will be greater than 5%. For example, if your coverage is 10%, your cartridge will run out in half the number of pages specified in the factory page yield.
Below are a couple of examples with different fonts and spacing of what 5% coverage of a page looks like.
As you can see, this coverage does not necessarily represent a typical impression for an average user. So it's worth keeping in mind that the stated page yield for your cartridge doesn't necessarily mean you'll get as many pages from your cartridge.
